Smokey And The Bandit Restomod Recreation
The goal of this 1978 Firebird makeover was to build a super high-performance Trans Am, and turn it into a 1977 Special Edition Trans Am that was in the classic movie Smokey and the Bandit starring Burt Reynolds.
This 1978 Trans Am is our customers original high school car that he kept for years.
He came to us with a vision of transforming his 1978 into a 1977 Trans AM muscle machine with retro styling.
When the job rolled into our shop we immediately knew this was a special project for Netcong Auto Restorations.
EXTERIOR MODIFICATIONS:
The 1978 makeover project included Dupont Chromabase clear coat in BMW Jet Black. We fabricated a mini tub to accommodate the much larger wheels and tires, and painted on hood in gold metallic pearl a custom Firebird. We added Be Cool 4 core aluminum radiator with dual electric cooling fans.
INTERIOR MODIFICATIONS:
Interior included Vintage Air AC and Heating, LizardSkin Sound and Heat Reducing Insulating Spray, an Alpine Head Unit, Alpine Type R Mid Range Speakers, and a Alpine Type R 10 ” Subwoofer. For accents we used billet aluminum door and dash inserts.
PERFORMANCE MODIFICATIONS:
Rebuilt 400 Big Block Stroker Motor with a Holly 750 Carburetor, Edelbrock Aluminum Intake, Dougs Full Length Headers and a 3 Inch Custom Exhaust. We installed a March Serpentine Belt Conversion, and upgraded to a 5 Speed Tremec Transmission Hearst Short Throw Shifter. We installed a Ford 9″ Narrowed Posi Rear (Gear Ratio 373) and a Rockwood Custom Fuel Tank. We selected a Detroit Speed Mini Tub, performed a Willwood 4 Wheel Disc Conversion (Drilled and Slotted Rotors Caliper 18×9 Front 18×12 in Rear. And for tires we went with BF Goodrich.
